Trim Levels for the 2024 Ford Explorer

Base Model

The base Ford Explorer has a 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine with auto start-stop technology. It uses rear-wheel drive, but you can upgrade to intelligent four-wheel drive. The ten-speed automatic transmission shifts seamlessly between gears. It drives on 18-inch wheels and 255/65R18 all-season tires.

XLT

The XLT uses the same engine as the base model but offers more customization options. You can upgrade to 20-inch aluminum or carbonized wheels and 255/55R20 all-season tires to get through the sand.

ST-Line

You’ll find the same engine under the hood as the base model. It includes 20-inch wheels or 21-inch wheels for a higher stance with 255/55R20 all-season tires. The ST-Line includes trailer sway control for more confidence when towing.

Timberline

The Timberline also uses the 2.3L EcoBoost but sticks to the company’s intelligent four-wheel drive. It includes SelectShift with paddle shifters for shifting gears without taking your hands off the steering wheel. It rides on 18-inch wheels and 265/65R18 all-terrain tires. You also get off-road front struts and rear shocks for fewer vibrations on uneven terrain.

Limited

The Limited has the previous engine with rear-wheel and all-wheel drive options. It adds roof rack rails for additional storage space and LED taillamps for improved visibility.

ST

The ST upgrades to the 3-liter EcoBoost V6 engine for more torque and horsepower. It has front and rear skid plates for more protection from obstacles and the Explorer hood badge.

King Ranch

The King Ranch uses the 3.0-liter EcoBoost V6 engine. It uses 20-inch aluminum wheels with the logo center cap and 255/55R20 all-season tires.

Platinum

The Platinum uses the 3.0-liter EcoBoost engine but adds stylish exterior and interior flourishes, including satin aluminum door handles, a leather-covered first-row center armrest, and Brunello stitching with the Platinum branding. It rides on 21-inch aluminum wheels with nickel-painted pockets and 275/45R21 all-season tires.
